Francis Gilbert is a Lecturer in Education at Goldsmiths, University of London, teaching on the PGCE Secondary English programme. He also teaches the Creative Writing module on the MA in Children’s Literature, which is run by Maggie Pitfield and Professor Michael Rosen. Previously, he worked for a quarter of a century in various English state schools teaching English and Media Studies to 11-18 year olds. He has, at times, moonlighted as a journalist, novelist and social commentator. He is the author of ‘Teacher On The Run’, ‘Yob Nation’, ‘Parent Power’, ‘Working The System -- How To Get The Very Best State Education for Your Child’, and a novel about school, ‘The Last Day Of Term’. His first book, ‘I'm A Teacher, Get Me Out Of Here’ was a big hit, becoming a bestseller and being serialised on Radio 4. In his role as an English teacher, he has taught many classic texts over the years and has developed a great many resources to assist readers with understanding, appreciating and responding to them both analytically and creatively. This led him to set up his own small publishing company FGI Publishing (fgipublishing.com) which has published his study guides as well as a number of books by other authors, including Roger Titcombe’s ‘Learning Matters’ and anthology of creative writing 'The Gold Room'. He is the co-founder, with Melissa Benn and Fiona Millar, of The Local Schools Network, www.localschoolsnetwork.org.uk, a blog that celebrates non-selective state schools, and has his own website, www.francisgilbert.co.uk.
He has appeared numerous times on radio and TV, including Newsnight, the Today Programme, Woman’s Hour and the Russell Brand Show. In June 2015, he was awarded a PhD in Creative Writing and Education by Goldsmiths.
As You Like It Reloaded 
This play was quite confusing as it was wriitten in old english but it was still quite enjoyable to watch especialy the fighting scence.
I’m glad you liked it overall. Now try and show what you understand actually happened.
As you like it is all based around a young man called Orlando. All he wants is to get his inheritance but his older brother punishes him for trying to claim it.
I found the play quite confusing at the start.
What did you work out was going on?
i thought the film is quite good but it is confusing as in the play they speak old english so it can be quite hard to understand but shakespeare made the play interesting by including a chase which creates suspense there is a chase because rosalind and celia escape the castle and when the duke finds out he gets annoyed so he sends people to find them overall a good play
I found the play quite unique in terms of the story line and even though I had to think to fully understand the old english words I understood what was happening and I liked it.
The storyline of the film was really good although it can sometimes be difficult to understand. Even though they used poetic language I still managed to understand what was going on in the story. There is drama and suspense in the story with the fight and where there is a chase and Oliver is after Orlando and Duke Frederick is trying to find Rosalind and Celia. Overall I quite enjoyed the play.
I quite like the play but I think that the japan one we watched in class was more interesting and less confusing. however it was interesting seeing the was the different directors decided to film different scenes. I thought the language was fairly difficult but I understood the majority of it. I like the dramatic scenes like the fight but it was generally quite a funny story. Overall I liked it.
I found the storyline slightly confusing at first but once grasped,I believe it is a very intriguing play.
There is a lot of hatred going on between characters throughout the whole play – Oliver and Orlando’s relationship is rather the same as Duke Frederick’s and Duke Seniors. which adds suspense to the play.
Overall I think the play is good once understood. 🙂

I have watched the first hour of the bbc asyoulikeit but i do not have time to watch any more. I find the play quite good and the charaters are very creative but the peotic language is quite hard to understand at times. Overall I think that the play was very interesting to watch.
I thought this reproduction is good but not something that i would watch for enjoyment. The characters are played well and how i imagined them in my head. I prefer the japanese reproduction as it is newer, more entertaining because of the action and also funnier, it is also a lot easier to understand. The language in the bbc reproduction is sometimes hard to understand but i managed to grasp it, also the one set in japan feels more realistic than the bbc one as that feels very set up.
I found this reproduction of the play not very exciting and it wouldnt be something i would watch for enjoyment. Sometimes the language was hard to understand but after a while i grasped it. Compared to the Japanese version it was not as good because; it was not as funny, not as entertaining and had no action included in it. i liked the Japanese reproduction because of this and it also felt a lot more realistic where as the bbc reproduction felt more set up.
I thought this version was interesting and amusing, the language was quite difficult however I do understand what happens in the play so I got the jist of what was going on. It is very different to the Japanesse version we watched in class and I did prefer that version as it had better acting and film quality with more action however I felt this was more what Shakespeare wrote it to be like.
